Summer School on Intercultural Competencies. University of Verona: June 16–19, 2026
“Cultures, Contexts, and Care: Intercultural Education for Today’s Helping Professionals” is the title of the Summer School 2026 organized by the University of Verona, in collaboration with the College of Education at DePaul University of Chicago.
The Summer School will take place in Verona from June 16 to June 19, 2026.
The Summer School 2026 aims to explore the existing interconnections between intercultural competences and the development of strong community connections among educators, professionals, and practitioners from various work sectors, ranging from education to healthcare.
To this end, the Summer School aims to provide participants with the opportunity to acquire in-depth and cutting-edge knowledge on topics related to intercultural competences, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based community practice.
It does so by inviting high-profile scholars and professionals from both national and international backgrounds to participate in the course.
The main objective is to create an international and interdisciplinary environment for exchange and research that can help promote new and innovative projects on these topics.
The course is organized in the form of a seminar and requires a high level of participation from both students and instructors.
Educational Structure of the Summer School
The sessions include several types of learning activities:
- lectures
- full-group discussions
- small-group discussions
- participant presentations and reflections
- multimedia presentations in various combinations, depending on the schedule of each specific session
The Summer School – held in English – lasts four days, for a total of 32 hours of lectures, seminars, and workshops, from Tuesday, June 16 to Friday, June 19, 2026.
Each day includes a morning session and an afternoon session.
Morning and afternoon sessions are led by different speakers and are separated by a lunch break and coffee breaks, which encourage more informal conversations.
The Summer School activities include lectures, laboratory/workshop activities, and visits or meetings with stakeholders from the Verona area, aligned with the objectives of the training program.
In addition, the Summer School includes guided discussion and reflection sessions (round tables, Q&A sessions, and group work).
There will also be on-site visits to community locations, including interviews and video materials.
Participation is open to university and postgraduate students, early-career researchers, and professionals such as social workers, educators, psychologists, and teachers.
